Feeling Connected to Your Child in Heaven

Golden clouds with warm light breaking through

Ask a room full of bereaved parents whether they have ever felt their child near, and watch nearly every hand go up. A cardinal that lingers. A song that plays at the exact right moment. A dream so vivid it feels more like a visit. The penny on the sidewalk on their birthday.

In our community we speak of these openly, without embarrassment. On the Jonny's Angels YouTube channel we share what we call miracle stories: the moments parents feel connected with their angel children in Heaven. For many parents these experiences are not small comforts. They are lifelines.

The continuing bond

For a long time, the culture around grief pushed parents to seek closure and let go. Newer understanding, and everything I have witnessed in our meetings, says the opposite: healthy grieving is not about severing the bond with your child. It is about carrying the relationship forward in a new form. Love does not end at a graveside. It changes address.

Whether you understand signs as Heaven reaching back, as I do, or simply as love and memory speaking, the effect I see in parents is the same: comfort, connection, and permission to keep the relationship alive.

My own experience

Before I lost Jonny, a three year illness took me to Heaven's door, where I was miraculously healed. What I saw there carried me through every loss that followed. I do not ask anyone to believe what I believe. I only tell you what that experience gave me: certainty that our children are not lost. They are ahead of us.

"My time in Heaven showed me truths that carried me through every loss that followed."

Making room for connection

  • Keep rituals. Light their candle. Cook their meal on their birthday. Ritual is a bridge.
  • Write to them. Many parents in our groups keep a letter journal and describe real relief.
  • Tell the stories. Signs shared out loud in a safe circle multiply their comfort.
  • Hold it gently. A sign is a gift, not a test. On the days nothing comes, your child is not further away.

If you have a story you have been afraid to tell out loud, our Thursday circle is a safe place to tell it. Nobody here will look at you sideways. We will lean in.
